A Mac app

Watch your hands!

Helps you beat the habit of touching your face and biting your nails. Care for your health — and for how colleagues see you on calls.

Problem

People touch their face 23 times per hour

And they barely notice — just like they don’t notice biting their nails. It’s harmful: through touches, over 150 kinds of bacteria from your hands reach your mucous membranes, and your skin breaks out.

On calls

On calls everyone sees it

On video calls people are especially conscious of how they look. Everyone’s framed in close-up. Some sit still; others keep fidgeting and scratching their nose.

How it helps

The app gently notices touches

When your hand moves toward your face, the edges of the screen softly glow red — so you notice the touch the moment it happens. That’s the first step of habit-reversal therapy, the most effective evidence-based way to stop touching your face and biting your nails.

An app built to become unnecessary

We move toward a healthy level of 10 touches per hour in small steps. Each day I first measure your level, then set an achievable goal 10% lower.

Touch your face no more than 10 times per hour for 30 days — and you’ll get a diploma.

Privacy policy

Watch your hands! is built to fully protect your privacy.

Camera

The app uses your Mac’s camera to notice when a hand approaches your face; every frame is processed on the device in real time; video is never recorded, saved or transmitted.

What is stored

Simple statistics (how many touches and when, progress and rewards) — only on your Mac, inside the app’s own folder. It never leaves the device.

What we collect

Nothing — no accounts, no analytics, no ads, no third-party trackers; the app works without the internet.

Deleting your data

Delete the app, then delete this folder — it holds all the statistics. There are no other copies anywhere: ~/Library/Containers/com.watchyourhands.mac

Camera access

You can turn it off at any time: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera.

FAQ

Questions

Does it work with Zoom, Google Meet and other calls?

Yes. macOS lets several apps use the camera at once, so your call runs as usual. In “On calls” mode I switch on automatically when another app is using the camera.

Is the camera on all the time?

Up to you. There are three modes: “Off”, “On calls” — only while a call is going on — and “Always”.

What if I bite my nails?

I’ll notice that too: a hand at your mouth counts as a touch. Statistics even show which zones you touch most often.

Which Mac do I need?

Any Mac with macOS 13 Ventura or newer, Apple Silicon or Intel, and a built-in or external camera.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once and the app is yours. Updates are free.

Where does the video go?

Nowhere. Frames are processed right on your Mac and forgotten immediately: nothing is recorded or sent. Privacy policy
